David Weinhart standing with Alon Wolf, World Renown designer & principal of
Magico next to his newest design the M-5 speakers. Their room with Solutions
electronics, pre amplifier and two Stereo Class A amplifiers running bi-amplified. Magico and their new M-5's were the hottest item at the Venetian
Hotel and were considered by almost everyone including the reviewers I spoke
to, to be the best sounding room at CES. Their room had the best sound I
have ever experienced at CES and it should be noted, I've attended CES for
the last 21 years! We are expecting a March delivery on the fist production
batch along with the increasable new V-2 speakers.

We would like to start out with my brief report by wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year.
As expected this year’s CES was a little slow. However, many of the companies I spoke to reported a lot of serious sales interest and were optimistic. Please check out my show highlights below.
It was very apparent that LP’s are making further inroads with younger music enthusiasts and serious listeners representing a new direction for the Music Companies. Because LP’s can’t be pirated the LP may be the best avenue music companies have to remain profitable and support musicians and the recording company’s ability to stay in business. The new LP releases mainly found this year at “The Show” were abundant and incredibly well mastered and mostly done from the original master tapes. I spent a few thousand dollars on LP’s that will be prove to be highlights in my vast record collection.
More turntables were shown at CES this year than ever and ClearAudio had by far the most comprehensive range of products. The ClearAudio Innovation series promises to out do all competitors in the 10K range and offered tables from entry level to $150,000 and arms and cartridges to suit any system or budget.
Meridian finally unveiled their Blue Ray HD-621 HDMI interface for all of their surround processors from the 500 series to their current offerings. This ground breaking device strips the Digital Audio and Digital Video signals and furthermore optimizes the digital play back for both Video & Audio. It's said to be shipping shortly and will sell for an estimated price of $2,995. Click for the official product sheet.
As you likely know Meridian purchased Sooloos and it will be quite exciting to see what these two great companies can do together. Meridian also showed the new DSP-8002’s in a new “Metallic Graphite” color powered by my favorite Music Server Sooloos. Meridian demo'd a new CAT-5 proprietary interface for the Sooloos to optimize its use with the new Meridian DSP loudspeakers. It's rare to see two companies at this level join forces and we look forward to seeing what the can do as one company.
Unfortunately, we missed many rooms we wanted to cover, but I spent a lot of quality time with several friends in the industry, reviewers, designers, proprietors and reps. In a show of this size, no one can do it all in two days. We look forward to next years CES and invite you to visit us in our Los Angeles Showroom. Call us for us an appointment, we promise to do our best to help you in any way we can. |

One of the three Meridian Rooms demonstrating the worlds best video 4K video projector the cost no object Meridian 810 Reference Video System (includes their world class unique scalier / switcher). The picture below was shot hand held of a Sting Concert playing in a complete Meridian system featuring their unique DSP Active speaker System. The 810 Projector and matching video scalier is by far the best video
picture I have ever seen and by a far margin. It is something until
experienced simply unimaginable! |

AudioMachina Maestro Speakers in the AudioMachina & Modwright room. David
Weinhart standing with brilliant Dr. Karl Schuemann of AudioMachina. The

anywhere. Please check out the Positive Feedback rave review in the current
Positive Feedback by the honorable Bob Levi. Modwright introduced new mono block amplifiers that were
very promising. The AudioMachina Maestro speakers are available to be

Perhaps the most exciting digital source component of all time? Well...
it's no ClearAudio Statement Turn Table $150,000 but for $3,000 the
"PerfectWave Transport" and $3,000 for the matching PerfectWave DAC" it's
likely to be the deal of the century. It has a propriety digital interface
to be used when played together and offers virtually every digital input for
anything you may want to use with it at a very reasonable $6,000 pair
promises to re define what is possible in digital play back at a price many
can afford. It is my prediction this represents a whole new level of
Digital playback especially the transport. Does anyone reading this want to
bet me this transport betters every mechanical transport ever made? We will
see won't we? It is being reviewed by Robert Harley of TAS shortly and he
indirectly hints in the magazine of a rave review. How could it be less
than remarkable and should start shipping shortly in February. The
"PerfectWave Transport" is got to be a must own for just about every
customer I know! As I see it is best to get you name in to us to reserve
one of your own as supplies will be limited and the demand should exceed the
supply.
Another PS Audio favorite of mine is the reasonable and wonderful PS Audio
Premier Power Plant Regulator @ $2,000 it's a steel and available to
audition in our Los Angeles Showroom or in your home.

Weinhart Design's Jeff Kaplan pointing out the new Cary 11-A Surround
Processor and matching amplifier in their CES Demo system. It is remarkable
how much one can get in a Surround Processor for $4,000. We have sold
several and I have to tell you it's a sonic miracle for only $4,000! For
more than double I have better but still it's the best deal available in a
surround processor today!

And that's the wrap up. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
Be sure to call and come in to hear and see all the gear in our showroom. |
