PS Audio PerfectWave makes a Perfect Preview

On  Sunday, April 26, at 5 PM: Paul McGowan, CEO and Chief Engineer of PS Audio , came to Weinhart Design to talk about his latest products and all things related to power and for a serious shoot out with my best digital pieces.  It was a stunning and very illuminating demonstration.

David Weinhart with Paul McGowan in front of the brand new PerfectWave transports and DAC.

Paul McGowan, introduced the new PerfectWave pair – the PerfectWave Transport and the PerfectWave DAC to a close group of Weinhart Design preferred customers and Audio enthusiasts. The PWT is the world’s only transport that can directly play Reference recording’s HRx discs and Paul brought a nice sampling of these along with me to play for the group!" The features of the combination are amazing with selectable up-sampling, different digital filters, almost every digital input, XLR & RCA fixed or variable outputs and easily upgradable software via the internet".

I've been watching the development of the two PS Audio pieces for two years at CES & Rocky Mountain Audiofest where their demo of these sounded quite good indeed. Trade shows are insightful but are not a serious way to know how something actually sounds.  The only real way is for controlled single variable comparisons. At the shows it was clear to me and most in "the know" if Paul McGowan could sort out the designs they would set new standards for what can be done and value.

So the Sound: I can honestly say the The PerfectWave Transport &  PerfectWave DAC are two of greatest engineering and sonic developments in the history of Digital play back! With that said, the Sooloos Music Server, Meridian 808 MK-II CD and Stahl Vekian DAC should also be auditioned and considered or as "they say" in the magazines also on your short list.  For those of you using conventional CD Transports regardless of their cost get out while you can and while they still have some value. What we used to deal with was a mechanical issue.  Where were are now is an electronic work around to jitter and you heard it from me first.

The PerfectWave Transport is only $3,000 and the PerfectWave DAC is only $3,000 ($6,000 a pair) and are due for release in May or June.  Get your orders in HERE early... the demand and implications to the market will be huge!

Please call me to find out more and discuss how I can help you get more out of your music.
