|Stereophile Magazine in the October 2011
issue has rated the Bryston BCD-1 CD Player, the Bryston BDA-1 DAC and the
Bryston BDP-1 Digital Player all “CLASS A.”
Andre Marc, reviewed the BDA-1 for AV Revolution
Upsampled to 176.4 Redbook CD's sonic images seemed to leap out of the speakers. Bass seemed deeper and richer. There seem to be details that emerged from recordings that were pushed to the forefront that were previously buried in the background. What was driving me crazy is that even at the conclusion of the review period I could not decide if upsampling was providing a fuller listening experience, or an artificial sheen. Ultimately I was leaning toward the former, as I semi concluded the Byrston’s upsampling scheme was doing something desirable musically.
With upsampling engaged, the BDA-1 created an additional dimension on CD playback, but as I said, it took me some time to decide it was a natural improvement. When it was off, I missed the additional soundstage width and depth. I decided to leave it engaged 90% of the time. Once I settled in, listening to the BDA-1 was an absolute pleasure. There was a seamless coherence throughout the frequency spectrum, and not even a hint of digital glare. This was clearly a world class digital component.
Mike Timmins, the leader of the world famous Cowboy
Junkies, just purchased a BRYSTON BCD-1 CD Player for his personal use. “ I hooked up the BCD1 this morning and...oh man...I never thought that I'd be excited about "rediscovering" my CD collection. I've been listening to a lot of vinyl these days and I've been pining for the
good old days, but the BCD1 has brought out the depth and subtle overtones on my CDs that I thought
were only available on vinyl. It's very exciting for this old jaded set of ears.
We would love to provide some Junkies music as part of the BDP1 promotion. After hearing your CD
player I have faith that the BDP1 will finally do justice to this next generation of recorded music. Let me
know how you want to proceed.
I'd be very happy to get behind something that champions an audiophile listening experience for the new
generation. We have a new website that is loaded with downloadable music and we are now starting to
offer it in FLAC. It's good to know that there will be a proper way to experience these high-resolution files.
AMPLIFIER LIKE THE 14B MEANS DELIVERS A DYNAMIC RANGE THAT HAS TO BE HEARD TO BE BELIEVE:
The Bryston 14B SST2 is a marvelous power amplifier. It produces clean, low distortion, neutral sound, at power levels few of us have experienced. Regardless of how much power one has, we typically listen to music at only a few watts. But the overhead with an amplifier like the 14B means delivers a dynamic range that has to be heard to be believed.
THE ABSOLUTE SOUND PRODUCT OF THE YEAR: “This new DAC, based on Bryston’s highly successful BCD-1 CD player, breaks new
ground in its price range. It does this with a remarkable ability to resolve information in a
musically coherent way, rather than by raw sonic analysis. The way instrumental lines
relate to each other, how rhythms trade off, why the composer wrote the music as he
did, and why each musician plays his line a particular way are all beautifully laid out by
the BDA-1. Significantly, the BDA-1 requires no “decoding” by the listener to appreciate
these qualities. Rather, the Bryston effortlessly makes these musical values evident."
AUDIO EXPRESS: Raves for our BDC-1 CD PLATER. "For the first time, CDs sound as good or better than records of the same music." - James T. Frane
AUDIO VIDEO REVOLUTION: Raves for our 2B SST Squared, power amplifier. "These Bryston components really grew on me. Personally suprising, as my usual preference is tube amplification. I found the grain free, dynamic and rock solid presentation very pleasing. What was missing? Well, my Audio Research gear certainly is a bit warmer in the midrange, with a more intimate presentation. My tube gear is definitely more forgiving of edgier recordings. But the Bryston set up had a truer sense of scale, and better bass control, by a mile."
2010 JUNO AWARDS: The top recording engineers meet in a reference recording studio in an undisclosed location and
through a weekend long listening session choose the best of the best.
They have asked to use a Bryston BCD-1 CD Player to assess who the winners will
ENJOY THE MUSIC: Bryston's 7B SST-2 was voted 'Best Audiophile Equipment Of The Year Award 2009' by Enjoy the Music Read reviewer Anthony Nicosia full rave review with his conclusion "My experience with the Bryston 7B SST2 amplifiers was nothing short of breathtaking."
NXOS-GREEK MAGAZINE: A five star review for our 14BSST² amplifier. "You will certainly spend many years with it, probably more than the twenty of its
warranty, and this is something that is ensured not only by its neutral character but also
by its leading construction."
SON & IMAGE: More raves for our BCD-1 CD PLAYER. "The ultimate goal of audio equipment is to fully engage the listener in the musical experience. Never
once has the BCD-1 failed in this regard. Disc after disc, I have not succeeded in tripping up this
machine. It plays music like it mattered!"
HOME THEATER AND SOUND: LUST RESPECT AND LOVE! FROM THIS 9B SST2 REVIEW "The Bryston 9B SST2 looks like a million bucks, and its rock-solid construction means it will likely see your kids through nursery school, kindergarten, grade school, college, and grad school. And it performs at a level that will scare the bejesus out of amps costing twice as much.
During my time with it, the 9B earned my lust, my respect, and ultimately, my love. Many amplifiers can evoke one or two of these emotions, but it’s a rare breed that summons all three. All of which means that, in addition to earning my affections, the Bryston 9B SST2 has won a Reviewers’ Choice award as the best multichannel amp I’ve heard. Unconditionally recommended."
INNER EAR: A review of our new 7BSST Squared and 28B monoblocks. "Both sets of amplifiers have delightful sonic characteristics that cannot be categorized easily — loads of kinetic energy, great dynamics, speed and control. ...these amplifiers have a warm blossoming quality that is customarily found in (expensive) tube gear. As the 7B Squared amplifiers offer a bit of both, they may be the solution to achieve a high degree of musicality with any loudspeakers rated under 90dB efficiency. They will, however, sound great with any loudspeakers under the sun. "
